Life-Size “#Zenjinrui Usagika Keikaku” Japanese Doll, Reborn as a 1/4 Scale Figure
hololive Production’s hugely popular VTuber Usada Pekora has been transformed into a gorgeously dressed Japanese doll figure.
Realized through a collaboration with century-old doll maker Yoshitoku, this Usada Pekora carries herself with light, graceful movement, one sleeve slipping off like a fluttering wing. Wrapped in a vivid blue and pink kimono, its beautiful traditional patterns are accented throughout with gold leaf detailing. The rabbit-themed folding fan, geta sandals, and hair ornaments were all crafted with the same meticulous care.
Unveiled in early 2023 for the “#Zenjinrui Usagika Keikaku” project, Yoshitoku and DesignCOCO produced a life-size Japanese doll of Usada Pekora with full cooperation from COVER Corporation. The project was directed by A2C, the creator who originated the Japanese doll figure concept; kimono dressing was handled by Yoshitoku; and the base sculpt was produced by DesignCOCO, a leading company in life-size figure production. The kimono itself was tailored by Matsuzakura Isho, a house known for kabuki and other traditional Japanese performing arts costumes, while the hair ornaments were crafted by Tsumami Zaiku Ichirindo, a specialist shop for the Tokyo traditional craft of tsumami zaiku.
To bring the piece to fans, the life-size figure was then scaled down into this 1/4 scale version. Rather than simply shrinking the original data, the 3D model and costume construction were reworked from the ground up, with proportions, sculpting, and dressing all thoroughly refined for the smaller scale. “Don-chan,” resting on her shoulder, was carefully crafted with attention to its fluffy fur. A special commemorative nameplate is included.
